We have been spending our devotion time the last couple of weeks on Heaven and Hell, including both realities from an eternal perspective. While neither is easy to imagine, we see both on this earth. Over this past week, many of us may have spent the week at a spring break vacation destination, enjoying God’s creation and its beauty. On the contrary, if you watch the news, you will quickly see wars, conflicts, scandals, or even natural disasters over which we have no control. Maybe you are going through pain, loss, or conflict right now. The reality is that both aspects exist, both here on this earth and in eternity.
Question for us to strongly consider: have we placed our faith in Jesus Christ to secure our eternal destination with him in Heaven?
Are we completely sure and confident with our eternal destination? Our prayer this morning is that each one of us have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and we each can look forward to spending eternity with HIM! Guys, is this something we are thinking about every day? Are we fixing our eyes on Jesus?
“So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV
The things of this earth are temporary. Yep, all our possessions, accomplishments, and our earthly position will all be gone someday. The reality is that the odds of dying still remains at 100% for mankind…SO, eventually we will all leave this earth.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
This morning, think about the things each of us can do this week to store up treasure in heaven. Is it a relationship that we need to invest in? Is there an act of service that we have an opportunity to respond to? A note of encouragement to another who is struggling or in need? How about using our worldly wealth to give a gift to someone we care about? Or maybe it’s simply hugging someone and showing them we love them? For those paying close attention, we just covered the five love languages. 👊
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heart, and what no human mind has conceived” – the things God has prepared for those that love him – 1 Corinthians 2:9
Guys, the greatest gift ever has been presented to us through Christ's death on the cross. All we need to do is accept it. But that is not it for us. We were put on this earth for PURPOSE. And that purpose is not about ME. It's about reciprocating Christ's love to us, back to HIM, and those we interact with.
