Illuminating Hope: Embracing Dr. King's Legacy in Our Lives

Martin Luther king memorial

Finding Strength in Faith and Action in a World of Distractions

On this day, we honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We are reminded of the conviction, courage, steadfastness, and resolve that Dr. King Jr. demonstrated during his time here on this earth. He has caused us to reflect on our convictions, specifically God's purpose for our lives. Reflecting on the following quote from Dr. King Jr., how are we doing on being a light in the darkness and showing Love in situations where the world would push us in a different direction?

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Guys, we often find ourselves immersed in full schedules with plenty of distractions. News and information are available and in front of us constantly. Our phones give us a connection to the world like never before. It can be paralyzing at times, and I'm unsure what to do. Where do we go for answers??? Well, this week in devotion, we were reminded of how important it is to take time to LISTEN to what God has to say in our lives.

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry”  James 1:19

Our encouragement this week is to take time to LISTEN. Listen to what God is speaking into our lives during quiet times with HIM. Listen to those that God has strategically placed into our lives that love and care for us. Listen to those that we work with and interact with daily. Maybe we will learn something new, or God will speak to us in a way that gives us further clarity or conviction.

And when we do learn, grow, or gather conviction from listening, what do we do about it? We challenge us all to consider how we can better be a light in the darkness of this world and how each one of us can demonstrate LOVE to others. Remember, Love is not just a feeling but also an action.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” 1 John 3:18

We have been encouraged by the group of guys who have joined us in our bible devotion with Rick Warren on "Habit of Happiness." If you haven't been able to join, it's not too late. Click here to start the new year with a group of great guys from Seven24!
