What's Your Life Mission Statement?

writing your mission statement

Have you ever thought about your Life’s “Mission Statement”? Do you ever question whether you should drop everything and become a “Missionary”?

These are questions we’ve asked each other over the years — and something we wrestled with again this week. As we reflected on it, we were reminded of God’s covenant with us through Jesus: His ultimate sacrifice on the cross already paid for our sins. That sacrifice secured our salvation through faith and trust in Him.

But Jesus was also clear that our Mission as Christians is to actively participate in building His Kingdom. Our purpose goes beyond belief — it’s about action.

James put it this way:

“If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” — James 2:17

So, should we all pack up and become missionaries? For us, the answer so far has been no — but it’s still something we think about often.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

And here’s a little challenge for you: 👉 Email us your “life verse”, and we’ll send you ours with the story behind it. If you don’t have one yet, maybe now’s the time to find one — it could help guide your Life’s Mission.

Once a year, we sit down and review what we call our “Life’s Purpose.” It’s simple — just a few guiding points that remind us who we want to be and what matters most. Here are a few examples that might help you get started:

  1. Faith in Jesus – Loving Him, trusting Him, and living in a way that makes Him smile.

  2. Husbands – Cherishing our wives as God intended us to.

  3. Fathers/Grandfathers – Leading our families with love and example.

  4. Christian Leaders – Living with integrity, at home and at work.

  5. Kingdom Builders – Sharing our testimony and encouraging other believers.

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” — Matthew 7:24

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:14

If you’ve never written your Life’s Mission, this is a great time to start. Sit down somewhere quiet, pray, and listen. God’s direction for your life is already there. He just wants you to move.
