If Nothing Changes, Nothing Will Change

This past week, while reading the New York Times, we came across an article highlighting memorable quotes from the past year. Interestingly, every one of them came from anonymous sources. One quote stopped us in our tracks.
If nothing changes, nothing will change.
Sit with that for a moment. It sounds obvious. Almost too simple. But when you really think about it, it cuts deep.
Aren’t there things in our lives we want to change but never quite do? Areas where we know something needs to be different, yet we hesitate to take the next step? Instead, we settle into “Oh well, I guess this is just how it is.”
And over time, that leads to frustration, stress, discontent, and, often, a life that feels out of sync with God. This verse from Romans came to mind:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”Romans 12:2
Men, don’t we all want better outcomes?
Think about your walk with God. Do you want it to be stronger? More consistent? More real? What would actually need to change in your schedule, your habits, or your priorities to make that happen?
What about your marriage? Instead of thinking about what your spouse needs to change, look in the mirror. What could you do differently in 2026 to love, support, and honor her more intentionally?
How about your kids and family? This one hits close to home. Phones down. Laptops closed. Time and attention are given freely. When your kids look back someday, will they remember a dad who was present? What needs to change now to make sure that’s the story they tell?
Is there a friend who could use your encouragement? A call. A text. A simple “I’m thinking about you.” That small step might be exactly what they need today. Don’t wait. Do it.
We get it. Some things truly can’t be changed. But when you take an honest look at your life, chances are there are areas where change is possible if you’re willing to step up and take bold action. Too often, we quietly hope things will improve without us changing anything. Same habits. Same schedule. Same reactions. Same results.
If that sounds familiar, then 2026 is the year to step up. Scripture puts it clearly:
“Put off your old self… and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”Ephesians 4:22–24
Where change is needed, let’s be bold, courageous, and strong. Let’s take the steps necessary to love those around us well and become the men God is calling us to be.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.”1 Corinthians 16:13–14
