Say Goodbye To Yesterday

Have you ever looked back and wished you could change something, or felt burdened by guilt? An honest look in the mirror, and we suspect most of us would say YES.
It is so easy to find ourselves dwelling in the past and focusing on our regrets, rather than realizing we cannot change the past but can learn from our mistakes and move on. For many of us, moving on seems hard.
Gents, here is a fact to remember: We cannot erase our memories, but we do not need to live there.
This past week, a song caught our attention and became today’s Fist Bump focus. The song was Goodbye Yesterday by Elevation Rhythm and Gracie Binion. Here are a few verses from that song.
Goodbye yesterday. I am living in the light of a new day. I won’t waste another minute in my old ways. Praise the Lord; I’ve been born again. Again, and again, and again and again, you rescued me out of the mess I was in. You traded my sorrow for something to sing. Now I am dancing on the grave that I once lived in.
Can you relate to these words? We sure can. Are there things you can’t let go of that prevent you from feeling the peace God desires for us? Let them go. Hand them over to God. Say goodbye to yesterday!
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past, I am doing new things” Isaiah 43:18-19
We need to learn from our past, but we don't need to live in it. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. What are you going to do with it?
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal” Philippians 3:13-14
C.S Lewis said it well. “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.
Accepting what Jesus did for us on the cross and letting HIM carry our load will allow us all to start where we are today and live the life that God so desperately wants for each of us. It is a new muscle for many of us.
Realizing we are not in control, but God IS. LET IT GO AND GIVE IT TO HIM!
He never wanted us to carry the load of life alone. He loves it when we hand the load we are carrying off to him.
Our prayer as we start a new week is that each of us can put the words of Goodbye Yesterday into real practice in our lives. That we can take one step closer to Jesus by turning our lives, our regrets, and our guilt over to HIM and experiencing the peace in our lives that HE so desires for each of us. It is up to each of us.
Remember: If nothing changes, nothing changes.
