Embracing Brotherhood: Strengthening Bonds Through Faith and Accountability
Question for this fist bump: how are we doing with our accountability with other men? Are we surrounding ourselves with Men who look out for us? Who are the guys in our lives that we are looking after? A verse we are all probably familiar with but always applicable:
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” Proverbs 27:17
We often think about going to the gym. Yes, in our heads, we tell ourselves that we will stay committed on our own and work out just as intensively by ourselves. But how much better is it when we have someone alongside us, pushing us to improve and ensuring we don't quit? When we think about this verse, we reflect on a few habits we continue to work on in our accountability with each other. There is nothing new here, guys. It's just like going to the gym!
Morning Quiet Time: Whether first thing in the morning or a dedicated time. We need time to meet with God each day. It's a time we can get into the Word and take time to LISTEN. Also, it is an opportunity to communicate with God. God is waiting all night for you and me to wake up and connect! Not a prescription, but we often find morning time best for us. Once the day starts, it is harder to return to a settled, peaceful environment for quiet time.
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Mark 1:35
Prayer with Others: First of all, how well are we doing praying with our wives? If you are like us, we don't do this enough, which is a habit we would like to improve. Second, how often do we pray with other men? There is something special about taking time with another man or small group, opening up to allow the Holy Spirit to work. Another great verse is that we know when two or three gather in Jesus's name, he shows up.
"For where two or three gather in my name, I am with them." Matthew 18:20
Daily Devotion: Are we getting into the Word every day? Something we all need to make a habit of. For those who have joined us for our Seven24 devotions, technology has made it much more accessible to get into our Bibles. By the way, join us for our weekly devotion this week here https://bible.com/p/65314693/aa2ee31b06ab7a5d613f4da58d85c3f7
During the last event, Mario asked us all to write down the names of those guys we knew would show up for us when we needed them. Then, from that list, consider being bold and reaching out to someone on that list with whom you would like to deepen your relationship. Who is that person, guys? Don't push it off; go for it.
Guys, our prayer and desire are to help you build a Godly foundation in your life. If there is anything we can do to help, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are praying for you guys this morning, wherever God has you. Make it a great week!
