Beyond the Can: Discovering True Energy Through the Holy Spirit

Unveiling the Power Within Us Far Surpassing Any Energy Drink on the Market

Have you ever noticed how many energy drinks there are on the market today? Walk into any store, and you will find various energy drink options available. Beyond the drinks, you can also see a range of “energy shots” options to give you that quick, immediate boost in energy we must seek. Looking at one of the cans recently, we noted there is 4500% of the daily requirement of vitamin B12. Wow, that is a boost. On top of that, most contain a high percentage of caffeine. Whatever it takes to keep us moving and feeling full of energy!

“But you will receive POWER when the HOLY SPIRIT comes on you; you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” Acts 1:8

The concept of energy drinks made us step back and ask, where do we find TRUE ENERGY, and how do we get it? We are not opposed to energy drinks per se; we occasionally drink one, BUT there is a source of energy that God offers that we think tops all the options we can buy today. The energy that is sustaining and lasting. It is the energy that can only come from the HOLY SPIRIT!

“It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty” Zecharia 4:6

In our devotions over the years, we have commented that we need to spend more time talking about or even thinking about the Holy Spirit and its important role in our lives. The Holy Spirit is mentioned throughout the Bible but becomes more prevalent and impactful to us as we read the New Testament after Jesus’s death and resurrection. Knowing our human weakness and the fact we can never find the TRUE energy we need from external sources, God provided us with the Holy Spirit.

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly the sound, like the blowing of a violent wind, came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Holy Spirit enabled them”. Acts 2: 1-4

Stop for a second and think about that room. There was some SIGNIFICANT ENERGY there. We do not believe anyone in that room was looking for a 5-hour energy boost when they walked out of there. It is like fuel for a car. We fill our cars with gas to give them energy and power.

In the same way, God fills our bodies with the Holy Spirit to give us energy and power. It is our true FUEL. Nothing can replace it. It is energy that comes from the inside, not the outside. God knew when HE created us that there was no power greater than HIS and that we all needed that power to be able to fight the temptations of a fallen world. We needed that power to understand and have faith in HIS word. We needed that power to be witnesses for Him to others. We needed that power to live our lives like the Godly men HE created each of us to be.  

So, as you go into this week, you may need an energy drink to help you at the gym, BUT you need the HOLY SPIRIT and the energy and power it provides to sustain you and draw you closer to HIM. To help you fight with “energy unknown to mankind,” those worldly temptations and challenges that come at each of us each day.
