With pre-season football underway and high school two-a-day practices starting, summer is winding down, and a new season is beginning.
Thinking back, do you remember the excitement of a new school year? You were sad summer was over, but you were ready to reunite with friends, start new classes, and kick off another sports season.
We all know the legend of Vince Lombardi starting each season by holding up a football and saying, “Gentlemen, this is a football.” It was his way of reminding his players of the foundation.
We need the same in our faith. Imagine sitting in your “Two Chairs” with Jesus this week and hearing Him say, “This is the football. I am the football. Put your faith and trust in me in all areas of your life. Build a deeper and lasting relationship with ME.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5–6
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37
The start of a new season is a great time to refresh our faith and demonstrate to God that we trust Him fully.
Ask yourself:
What do I need to change?
Where can I elevate my faith?
How can I show Jesus I want Him in every part of my life?
It might mean:
Spending more time in the daily “Two Chairs” prayer
Asking a friend to start a devotion with you
Prioritizing time with your family over work
Putting away your phone when you are with others
Shifting your focus to serve others before yourself
Plugging into your church or small group
We all have areas that could use a refresh. Why not start now? If you’d like us to pray for you specifically, let us know.
Men, we’re not perfect. But we can take life one step at a time, moving the ball down the field together. Seven24 started because men need other men to walk with them, encourage them, and help each other grow in faith.
Let’s begin this new season with a renewed focus on the One who holds it all.
A few more words from Coach Lombardi to inspire you: “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence,” and “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.”
