God Never Designed Us to Do Life Alone

I Got This!

Do you remember being a kid and telling your parents those words? We didn’t need help. We could handle anything. And most of the time, that confidence didn’t exactly work out the way we expected.

Now fast forward to adulthood. Have we grown out of that phase? Sometimes we wonder. We are men and we want to go at it alone. We tell ourselves we got this even when we clearly don’t.

Adam thought he had it. God gave him everything, gave him clear direction, and he still went his own way. One decision changed the course of all mankind.

“Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, You must not eat from it… Cursed is the ground because of you.” Genesis 3:17-19

Then there is David. A man after God’s heart. But when temptation hit, he acted on impulse. If he had stopped for a moment, asked someone he trusted, or listened for God’s voice, the story would have turned out differently. Instead, he doubled down and made it worse. God sent Nathan to call him out.

“Then Nathan said to David, You are that man.” 2 Samuel 12:7

David repented, but the consequences were real and heavy. We often skip over that part, but it’s right there. Even great men suffer when they try to go it alone. And we see it in the New Testament, too. The Pharisees, the men who claimed to be closest to God, refused to listen to the actual Messiah standing right in front of them.

“Look, your house is left to you desolate.” Matt. 23:38

There is a pattern here. When men try to run life solo, when we rely on our own strength and ignore God’s direction, things fall apart. So what about us today? Where do we see that same “I got this” mentality in our own lives? Where is God nudging us? What have we been ignoring?

Take a minute today. Pray. Listen. Slow down enough to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying.

Think about the Godly men in your life who speak truth and encourage you. Reach out to them. Ask for help. Don’t isolate. Don’t pretend. You don’t have to go at it alone. God is ready to help. He always has been.

Praying for you this morning. May God speak clearly, guide your steps, and steady you through whatever you’re walking through.
