Is Your Foundation Rock Solid?

Strong foundation

Have you ever felt like you were standing on quicksand?

When your world seems to be crashing around you, and you feel like you need a life jacket. When life just comes at you fast, and you feel uncertain, less confident, and doubt where your next step should be. You feel anxious and not at peace. You are just off!

Situations like this will happen to all of us at some point. We have been there, and we suspect you have too. Maybe you are there right now.

As many of you know, one of the businesses we are involved in builds custom homes. This past week, we were out visiting our various job sites and focused on the foundation at one of the houses. We were confirming the importance of its stability and the need to ensure it would remain dry in all situations. To builders, strong and secure foundations are critical to a house's long-term stability, even in tough conditions such as tornadoes, high water, high winds, and hurricanes. A foundation isn’t flashy or cool. No one notices it when the house is done, but it’s the most important part, whether building a house or in life, because when everything else gets tested, it’s the only thing that holds everything together.

As we talked about this week's Fist Bump, I bet you can guess where we are going!

  • How is your foundation?

  • What is your foundation made of?

  • Is it tough enough to carry you through the storms life will throw at you?

A wise person told us once, “Storms don’t come to destroy you, they come to reveal your foundation." If your foundation were revealed, what would it show?

Remember this verse? It is on all our Seven24 gear and is the foundation on which we started Seven24.

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on rock” Matthew 7:24.

It is our prayer that all men who are engaged in Seven24 are building their lives on ROCK. That ROCK is our faith and belief in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and knowing that He died on the cross for each of us, so that we can have the HOPE of life with Him for eternity.

“In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

“We have this HOPE as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrew 6:19

These two verses leave no doubt that God is the root of a strong foundation for each of us. How do we keep our foundations strong? It is a question we asked. How do we make sure they do not erode or get shaky when times get tough? What does it take to walk the talk vs just talk the talk when it comes to living Matthew 7:24

Here are some thoughts: Nothing new, but always worth remembering.

Stay in the Word.

Being committed to reading the Bible and talking to God each and every day is essential for a strong foundation. We know we have said that often in our Fist Bumps, but how are you doing with making that a habit?

We both know that accountability is important to us for keeping this habit up. We encourage each other. It is great to see so many of you jumping in on the Seven24 daily devotion, where we can all encourage each other. If you would like to know more about how to jump in, please let us know.

The Walk through the Bible event we held a few weeks ago was awesome in helping us to get more comfortable with the Bible and its stories. Want to learn more? Give us a shout.

Have a few close Christian friends.

Again, nothing you don't know, but how are you doing with this? Do you have a couple of guys that you really trust? Guys, you can share when your foundation is getting a bit shaky. Men, you can go deep with rather than just talking about your kids’ latest sports victory or who MSU or Michigan beat last night?

We are firm believers that men need other Christian men in their lives. Study after study has shown that men who have these friends have a more stable life and face less stress and anxiety than those who do not. God did not build us to go through life solo. He is a God of relationships. If you do not have a friend like this and would like to find out more about how to develop this type of relationship, please reach out to us. We would love to help you.

OK, you get the picture. The main message is clear: STRONG FOUNDATIONS create strong lives capable of withstanding life's storms.

As we enter a new week, let's focus on keeping our foundations strong and supporting each other as we journey through life and strive to be the men our God created us to be.

Make a difference for Jesus this week!
